  • High-output oil-free pump delivers 2.8 CFM @ 90 PSI and 150 PSI max operating pressure for multiple finish tool operation
  • 2.0 HP (Peak), 1.5 HP (Running) motor draws 12 amps for easy start up without tripping circuit breakers
  • 1.2 gallon compact design weighs 23.5 lbs. for easy portability
  • Integrated control panel with roll cage protects gauges from jobsite damage
  • LED ON/OFF switch lets you know when the compressor is on to eliminate low-pressure misfires

Motor and Pump

The 1.5 HP motor fills the 1.2 gallon tank from empty to the maximum pressure of 150 Psi in approximately 50 seconds and when the motor kicks in at 125 Psi it takes approximately 10 seconds to charge back up to full pressure. Although the tank is fairly small the quick recharge time will more than compensate for this.

The pump is an oil free type that requires no maintenance. Such pumps are typical on low to medium usage compressors and allow the user to “switch on and go” without having to worry about filling the unit with oil, maintaining the oil level and eventually changing the oil.

The Stanley Bostitch has a 50% duty cycle and produces 2.8 CFM at 90 PSI and 3.7 CFM at 40 PSI. So, clearly this compressor isn’t for heavy duty work such as framing or paint spraying, but it is ideal for trim finishing and other light tasks.

The motor only draws 13 Amps so you can use the compressor on a standard 15 Amp circuit without worrying about tripping a breaker. The motor of this compressor has a thermal overload protector in the motor winding. If the motor should overheat the overload protector will shut the motor off. When the temperature returns to normal, the motor will restart automatically.

Design and BuildStanley Bostitch- Air Compressor

The compressor design is very neat and compact. The substantial roll cage is designed to protect the instruments and controls from any accidental damage. The rest of the compressor is covered with a protective shroud for extra protection against damage. The carry handle is a part of the roll cage and is positioned to give an even balance when the compressor is lifted.

Weighing in at only 24 Lbs and with a compact size of 18 x 13 x 15 inches the Stanley Bostitch CAP1512-OF is very lightweight and portable, which is a big bonus for storage purposes and those who need to reposition the compressor on a regular basis.

Stanley Bostitch ReviewOn the left side of the compressor is a cable tidy that keeps the power lead out of the way when transporting or storing the compressor and on the back of the compressor is a storage pocket and a Velcro strap that will hold an air tool such as a nail gun.

The CAP1512-OF sits on 4 rubber feet that help to stop any vibration and also protect susceptible flooring from damage.

Overall; a well designed and built piece of kit that should stand the test of time.

Control Panel

The control panel is also very well designed and is tilted upwards to enable the user to easily view the gauges from a standing position. The panel houses the two pressure gauges, quick coupler, pressure regulator and LED illuminated on / off switch.

Noise

At 89 Decibels the Stanley Bostitch is not the quietest compressor on the market but it certainly isn’t the loudest either. If noise is a critical consideration then you would probably be better off looking at the low noise alternatives, such as the Rolair JC10 or the California Air Tools CAT-4610A.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and compact design
  • 1.5 HP motor
  • Oil free pump
  • Gets to full pressure quickly and has fast recovery time
  • Good design and build quality
  • Roll cage and shroud for extra protection
  • Tool strap and pocket at rear of machine
  • Cable tidy

Cons:

  • Small 1.2 gallon tank
  • Quite noisy

Stanley Bostitch CAP1512-OF Review – Conclusion

If you realize the limitations of this compressor and use it for what it is intended to do, i.e. inflating, dust blowing, brad and finish nailing etc, it will cope just fine. Lightweight, portable and well built, the Bostitch CAP1512-OF is well worth the price tag.
