In this Rolair JC10 review we will be outlining the pros and cons of the air compressor and also giving you the best price. Is this compressor for you? Read on to find out.
The main selling points of the JC10 are the low (60 Decibel) output, solid build quality and the lightweight design.
The compressor has been designed and built to power a wide range of small to medium usage air tools such as brad and trim nail guns and for light contractor or DIY work it is ideal.
One of the main selling points of the Rolair JC10 is the incredibly low noise output, at only 60db the compressor noise is well below normal conversation levels. The machine emits a low humming noise that is barely noticeable, even when in a confined work area, meaning that you can run the compressor without worrying about the noise factor when working in a public area or inside a home. The JC-10 truly is amazingly quiet, probably the quietest oil free compressor on the market.
Motor and Pump:
For a small, 1HP air compressor with a 2.5 gallon tank the Rolair packs quite a punch. The JC10 takes approximately 1 minute to fill the tank from 0 – 125 PSI and offers a very fast recovery time from 85 – 125 PSI in approximately 10 – 12 seconds.
The 1 HP motor runs at only 1725 RPM and the 2 piston high volume direct drive pump delivers 2.3 SCFM @ 90 PSI and has a duty cycle of 70%.
The Rolair JC-10 is an oil free compressor so you won’t have to worry about the oil level and the disposal of used oil. Just take it out of the box, follow the pre-start check list in the manual, plug it in and you are ready to go.
Build & Design:
Although the Rolair JC10 is manufactured in China the quality control is still situated in the USA. When compared to some of the comparable foreign manufactured units the build quality of the JC10 compressor is very good.
The roll cage that surrounds and protects the compressor is made of thick metal tubing and should withstand some serious knocks. The rubber grip lifting bar is in the middle of the compressor and is very well balanced.
Weighing in at 39 LBS you won’t need to be a champion shot putter to carry it around. The combination of rubber feet and rubber vibration dampening motor mounts remove almost all vibration and also help to reduce noise significantly.
The controls that sit above the air tank are fairly typical for this type of compressor. There are two gauges, one that displays the tank storage pressure and one that displays the output or working pressure. The regulator valve can be adjusted to increase or decrease the output pressure to the tool line. Other Features:
The JC10 compressor is equipped with an electronic solenoid valve which dumps the head pressure when the max pressure is reached or the unit is unplugged. This allows the compressor to start unloaded, preserving the life of the compressor by reducing stress on the motor and pump.
The addition of a braided sheath that covers the discharge tube is a nice safety feature that protects the tube from damage and also reduces the possibility of a nasty burn. Anyone who has accidentally touched a discharge tube will know what I am talking about; they can get very, very hot.
The gauges point forward and not upwards, so when the compressor is sitting on the floor you can’t see them unless you tilt the machine backwards. If you are only going to be using one gun or are using guns that require the same PSI this wont present much of a problem. If on the other hand you are constantly swapping guns that require a different PSI then it may slow you down slightly. Not a big deal but one you should be aware of.
The JC10 is the perfect compressor for small shop spaces and to take inside properties for remodeling and repair work. Although the unit has not been designed to be used for air tools that require a high SCFM such as industrial spray guns etc, the Rolair will adequately cope with trim and finishing work and light framing work.
